Track Drying After Storm Halts Start
After a storm caused a four-hour delay, the 108th Indianapolis 500 is now underway. Conditions worsened around 1:00 PM, causing track officials to halt the race. However, with the storm having passed, track drying has begun and the race is expected to resume shortly.
Current weather conditions show high temperatures near 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures are expected to cool slightly behind the first round of storms, but humidity will remain high. Wind gusts are expected to reach 25 to 30 mph.
If weather conditions continue to improve, the Indy 500 could be completed today. The race must complete 101 laps for a winner to be declared. However, if weather conditions worsen or the race is unable to be completed today, it will be postponed to Monday.
